Don’t let someone else’s opinion of you become your reality – Les Brown
You can not do this or you are not good enough. Your own self-limited belief of you are not smart enough. Or maybe.. you don’t have the tools or the information you need. This will never work and no way you will succeed. And the list can go on and on with many more beliefs we can have in our minds. Sometimes we don’t even realize how this belief is created. Often it’s build by someone else’s opinion. We don’t really know that it’s an opinion of another person we have copied into our own mind. This could be a stranger but very often also a close one. Maybe it’s good friend or a family member. Sometimes it’s said to protect to you or to ‘save’ you from disappointments. However it’s also possible that someone else is not willing to put the effort and determination in this goal you have. So impossible is the first thing that pops up in their mind. The problem is that if we are not careful enough we let someone else’s opinion become our own reality. The real definition of reality as found in the Oxford Dictionairy is:
Reality: noun re·al·i·ty \rē-ˈa-lə-tē\ ‘The state of things as they actually exist, as opposed to an idealistic or notional idea of them’.
Or maybe even said it better: ‘A thing that exists in fact, having previously only existed in one’s mind’. So reality actually can be a fact you created first in your mind. This is the power of being a human. Creating our own reality by the thoughts we keep on repeating.
A picture of a rose looks now like a drawing but first it was a flower we could hold.
The same power we have to create reality by our minds or we let reality create our mind. Both can be used in a way it could benefit you but the other way around is also possible. I know now how hard it can be if you give others the control or allow whatever comes to your mind. I have build this what I call ‘self-belief filter‘. It has three important aspects: (1) Filter your own negative thoughts out, (2) don’t allow opinion of others that bring you down and (3) invest time in putting positive information to your filter.
The first one is one important since often we can be our own biggest enemy! The second one because opinions of others can build your self-confidence when you receive compliments for instance. However it can also break you down if people want to influence you the wrong way. And lastly, I have listened and read since a very young age to self-development audio and books. I have watched documentaries on youtube and listened to autobiograpy of inspirational leaders and speakers. One of the best quotes I have always kept in my mind concerning self motivation is from Zig Ziglar!
“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.”
Bath daily to keep your filter clean! Cheers to your succes!
